Ensures that quality diagnostic laboratory services are delivered to all patients in accordance with the philosophy, policies, procedures, and program plans of the hospital. #14-84 Director – Finance (1.0 FTE) Salaried position
This senior finance position at Valley General Hospital (VGH), an affiliate of EvergreenHealth, under the direction of VGH’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and with a matrix reporting to the system Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at EvergreenHealth, is responsible for management of the Hospital District finances and advises the Board of Commissioners, CEO, EvergreenHealth, other management staff, and the public of the financial operations of the Hospital. Responsible for the development, interpretation, coordination and administration of the hospital’s policies on finance, budgeting, patient accounting, payer contracting, accounting, systems development, internal controls and maintenance of records and procedures to adequately safeguard the assets of the organization. Serves as a member of the Administrative Council and works with the Leadership Council (management team) in the broader areas of planning and development, as well as overseeing and playing a major role in negotiating payer contracts. The Finance team at VGH consists of the Director of Finance, the Controller, two Staff Accountants and the AP/Payroll Coordinator. The position also supervises patient accounting, IT, and materials management.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree with major in business or accounting. A Master’s Degree in business, finance or accounting and a CPA certification are strongly preferred. Also requires a minimum of 5 years successful senior financial management experience, including operating performance improvement, revenue enhancement and cost containment; demonstrated technical and accounting skills with the ability to accurately analyze complex operations, financial and accounting information; extensive knowledge of business management theory and practices relating to healthcare management including cash flow, ROI, cost/benefit and portfolio analysis, as well as a clear understanding of accounting practices, financial analysis and modeling, cost controls, reimbursement and cost structure management; solid understanding of all aspects of health care delivery to include managed care, contract management, and physician contracting; ability to understand and assess the rapidly changing healthcare marketplace and be proactive in working with senior management colleagues formulating strategies to successfully proceed; strategic and financial planning skills and orientation to lead in the formation of the strategic financial direction for the organization in conjunction with the senior management team by asking the right questions, developing financial models and proformas, structuring as well as evaluating and negotiating appropriate arrangements; ability to educate and develop staff in financial matters and have the ability to problem solve in a wide spectrum of issues, both inside and outside the financial arena; technically excellent with a broad strategic orientation and an understanding of the implications of the organization’s activities; possess a good sense of timing, appreciate the content and context of decisions and exercise good judgment. A qualified candidate would be required to perform general maintenance work in an environment focused on safety and patient care. Candidates are required to have adept knowledge, working skill, and ability in, carpentry, drywall, electrical troubleshooting and repair, telecommunications, and mechanical systems as they relate to heating, ventilation, and plumbing.
