Hospital Foundation Awards Scholarships

Monroe, WA – Last week was National Hospital Week, and Valley General Hospital celebrated with their annual Foundation sponsored Staff BBQ and awards ceremony.

Each year as part of the festivities, the hospital’s Foundation awards employees at the ceremony with scholarships for continuing education purposes. “The Foundation sees this as an opportunity to show the staff how much we value them and believe in the mission of supporting such a great organization like Valley General Hospital,” states Lin McIlrath, Foundation Manager. “Every year we make the budget bigger and bigger for this purpose.”

Eight employees were given scholarship dollars in total of $5,000. They included: Deborah Prentice Sieves, Janine Houck, Debbie Donnelly, Shirley Karlsen, Stephanie Varhola, Carly Johnson, Gurpreet “Preet” Grewal and Nancy Hammond.

Many will use their funds to attend conferences to broaden their knowledge of a specific subject or for tuition.

Employees are able to submit an application throughout the year and the Foundation’s Scholarship Committee selects the recipients.
