Monroe, WA – Valley General Hospital’s third quarter 2005 STARR (Special Talents Are Recognized and Rewarded) Award winner is Sarah Jusko of Physical Therapy. Sarah has been in physical therapy for almost 30 years and has been at Valley General Hospital for almost six of those years. In a very short amount of time Sarah has made a lasting imprint on the physical therapy program and services at VGH, and as importantly, on the her patients and fellow employees.

Sarah is a unique physical therapist because she loves the type of physical therapy that challenges many other professionals in her field, inpatient and acute care. Many are familiar with outpatient physical therapy services, but just as needed are those services for patients who have undergone major surgeries or have very serious medical conditions and have been admitted to the hospital as an inpatient.

One of Sarah’s colleagues said this of her, “Sarah is persistent and passionate. She works well with all staff which leads to excellent inpatient care. That is what Sarah is all about – good patient care.”

It is important to Sarah to greet every patient as if they were a family member or a great friend and she is always looking for ways to provide better services to her patients. It is said of Sarah that she goes above and beyond the call of duty and that her patients love her and look forward to seeing her.

Sarah enjoys working at Valley General Hospital and hopes to finish her career as a physical therapist in this community. “I love the sense that all employees working here, work with the same shared values in mind: respect, responsibility, team work and compassion. We all enjoy working together with a common goal – excellent patient care.”

The STARR Award is presented to a hospital employee based upon nominations from fellow employees, and the final selection is made by a committee comprised of volunteer hospital staff. The recipient of the quarterly award receives a STARR pin, day off with pay, $50 from the VGH Foundation, letter of recommendation from the VGH Board and a STARR certificate.
