Pastoral Care

Funded by the Valley General Hospital’s foundation, the hospital provides a chaplain who is a member of the Hospital Chaplains Ministry Association. HCMA,, founded in 1939, is a nonsectarian organization that recruits, trains, certifies and places Chaplains in healthcare organizations worldwide. HCMA Chaplains are recognized by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) as legitimate providers of spiritual care within hospitals and other heathcare organizations. The hospital chaplain is on call for emergencies or families in crisis, and he is available to staff if they desire.

Social Services

Valley General Hospital provides a Social Services representative who acts as an information specialist for our patients. Social Services can assist patients by arranging: hospice services, living arrangements and access to necessary equipment such as walkers and crutches. Social Services is available to all patients who qualify for assistance.

Smoking and Tobacco Use Policy

Valley General Hospital will be a smoke and tobacco-free campus beginning January 1, 2011. As a health care organization, we are committed to the wellness of our employees, patients and visitors. We believe we are responsible for a leadership role on this major health issue, and allowing people to smoke on our campuses defeats this purpose. Our medical staff is committed to this new policy and will be prescribing their patients nicotine-replacement options during their stay. Please use the following links as a resource if you are interested in quitting or call the Washington State Department of Health’s Quitline 800-QUIT-NOW.
