Consumer Description: The Recovery Center Family Program

Weekly Family Program

Family ProgramThe Recovery Center at Valley General recognizes the importance of family involvement in chemical dependency treatment. The likelihood that a patient will recover from addiction successfully increases with the ongoing support of a healthy family and other recovery systems. Our weekly sessions provide an environment of support for family members and patients alike. The decision to receive treatment for chemical dependency impacts and involves the family. Successful chemical dependency recovery involves the work of the entire family, not just that just the chemically-dependent. The Recovery Center at Valley General has developed a program to assist those loved ones who have the courage and ability to participate in treatment. Family members are strongly urged to attend the Weekly Family Program. The program occurs each Thursday evening from 6-8:00pm. The Family Program educates loved ones on chemical dependency, recovery, and provides support in developing new ways to help the patient and help themselves. The Family Program at The Recovery Center is a combination of educational presentations, guided family or group discussions, and guest speakers. This combination of activities assist each family by building upon existing strengths and resiliencies and offers hope and options to create positive changes.

Family Counseling Session

Treatment and then early recovery can be a stressful period for both the patient’s and the people in the patient’s life. The Family Counseling session focuses on preparing all those involved for discharge. This allows the patient, invited family members, and the family counselor to discuss a collaborative recovery plan, concerns, fears, and solutions. For those patient’s who have supportive family who can not visit due to geographic or other considerations—patients may discuss the option of a phone meeting with their counselor or the family counselor. For those who have limited family participation, you may discuss the option of a meeting with someone else supportive of your recovery (i.e. sponsor, boss) or you may meet with the family counselor for an individual session.
